Romaine lettuce 'Valmaine' is a variety rich in vitamins C and A that develops erect habit and large, high quality heads. They are compact and consist of the elongated, dark green leaves. The outer leaves are leathery, rather firm and crunchy, while the inner ones are tender. 'Valmaine' romaine lettuce is grown because of its great taste and nutritional value. Its abundant, firm leaves are a source of minerals (among others potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and iron) and contain twice as much provitamin A and vitamin C than butterhead lettuce leaves. What is even more important, the 'Valmaine' romaine lettuce does not tend to accumulate nitrates what allows you to serve it to children, too. It is resistant to damage, survives transportation and short term storage.

Romaine lettuce (Lactuca sativa var. romana) is grown by the amateur gardeners in spring and summer. Its taste harmonizes with cheese and mayonnaise-based sauces and is therefore valued as salad component.

Its leaves contain only 17 kcal in 100 g of fresh foliage, what makes it a coveted part of the diet programmes of all those who try to lose weight.

This variety offered in our store should be grown on sunny sites in the open field. Romaine lettuce prefers light, medium compact, aerated soils with high humus content.
