The Catania is a very early and productive potato variety. Its large, oval tubers are covered with smooth skin with shallow eyes and consist of creamy-white flesh. Presented variety usually does not fall to internal heat necrosis and is resistant to black scab, and potato eelworm. This type of potato guarantees an early harvest of excellent quality, a feature that is valued by many gardeners. Catania belongs to B cooking type and is considered an all-purpose potato, perfect for preparing various types of boiled, baked, and fried dishes. Tubers of the very early Catania contain quite a lot of starch but are not mealy. They do not fall apart boiled, what makes them a great side dish. You can also use them to prepare potato pancakes and hash browns, as well as chips (French fries). Offered potato variety will satisfy all lovers of light flesh and excellent, proven taste.

Potato belongs to vegetables with low soil requirements. The Catania variety brings high yield in average soil, with a balanced nutrient-content, effective water distribution, and characterized by looseness. Potato-growing site should be sunny. Feed potatoes with multi-component mineral fertilizers. Planting them on a site enriched with manure in autumn the year before planting is highly recommended. Proper aearation and regular weeding are crucial for successful potato cultivation. As a very early variety, Catania may require protection with garden fleece during last spring frost. To allow your potato plants to produce nicely shaped tubers, grow them in ridges, raised to a height of 20 to 30 centimetres two or three weeks after planting.

Seed potatoes of the offered variety are recommended to be grown 32 to 34 centimetres apart, in rows every 75 centimetres, and at a depth of approximately 8 centimetres. The optimal time for planting is the second and third decade of April. The first harvest can take place 8-10 weeks after planting.
