Slippery jack mycelium is an absolute hit on the market! We proudly present ground biological spawn for planting in the garden. Thanks to the mycorrhiza, a mutual reliationship with trees, it will produce numerous delicious and impressive fruit bodies. You only need to locate garden slippery jack cultures close to the pine trees. If you have decorative conifers on your allotment, do not hesitate and fill your miniature ecosystem with these delicious edible mushrooms. Follow the detailed growing instructions from the producer and you will be able to harvest the excellent slippery jacks in the following 3 - 5 years.

Slippery jack, or sticky bun (Suillus luteus) belongs to the most characteristic edible pore mushrooms. It grows 3 - 10 cm tall, while its cap is covered with typical for this species sticky skin and reaches 4 - 12 cm in diameter. It has a semi-circular shape on the young specimens and is connected with the stem with a thin membrane. It takes on a pillow-like shape with a small hump at the top as it matures. Skin may be coloured in different shades of brown, from chocolate-brown, through reddish, to violet. The cap underside is yellow or yellowish-brown like the cylindrical stem. Delicious taste of the splendid slippery jack's cap flesh remain the most important feature of this fungus. It is soft, exceptionally tender and delicious served in many ways: marinated, in soups, stews and thick sauces. Another advantage of the slippery jack is that it belongs to the easily digestible mushrooms. You only need to remove the sticky skin of the caps. It easily separates from the flesh.

Valuable fruit bodies of the presented species emerge in the coniferous forests with the majority of pines almost all vegetation season long, from May until late autumn. If you would like to harvest them in your garden dig a few holes in the vicinity of a pine tree. One package would be enough for planting three holes, approximately 30 cm wide and 15 cm deep. The spawn will develop only in permeable, acidic soil, so we recommend to invest in garden soil mixed with peat and cover the site with needles, moss or humus brought from the coniferous forest. Finally you should water the culture. Supplying the sites with water in the extending drought periods is the only care measure these mushrooms need. Slippery jacks grows commonly in Central Europe, produces rich crops and belongs to undemanding species that are perfect for the unexperienced mushroom 'farmers'.

The package contains ground biological spawn (mycelium) on grain. Detailed growing instructions have been included in the package information. You may plant the mycelium all season long, from mid-April to October. The producer estimates the probability of successful slippery jack development for 85 - 87%. The emergence of mushrooms depends on the environmental conditions and proper site preparation: slippery jack lives in mycorrhizal symbiosis with pines.
