Sweet corn 'Gucio' (Zea mays ssp. saccharata) is an early variety that stands out with the unusually sweet taste. Tall plants reach up to 170 cm in height. The cobs are usually 25 cm long and 5 cm wide in diameter. They take on a regular, cylindrical shape and are tightly covered with leaves, including the tip. Seeds have a tender, yellow-orange hulls. They taste great warm right after cooking or as addition to salads or side-dish to warm plates.
Grow sweet corn from direct sow to the field. Proceed with the sow mid-May, when the ground would have warmed up sufficiently. We recommend to sow 2-3 seeds per hole, 4-6 cm deep. Please make sure to keep 40x40 cm spacings when sowing in order to allow the plants to develop healthily. Regular weeding is important in cultivation of this plant, particularly at an early development stage. Cobs are harvested milk-ripe, when the seeds are juicy and contain the most sugar. The harvest usually takes place at the end of summer. Corn likes warm, sunny sites and prefers fertile, moderately moist soils.
Each package contains 100 g of the 'Gucio' sweet corn seeds. Growing instructions and the sow-by date are included in the package information.
