The 'Red Alert' arum lily (Zantedeschia) with cherry-red leaves is a truly elegant variety of the exotic plant. This 30 to 40 centimetres tall perennial has an erect growth form and its large leaves are equally decorative as its flowers. The oval and sharp-tipped or arrow-shaped leaves grow on long petioles and stand erect just like the flower stalks. They take on an emerald green colour and their entire surface is covered with tiny white speckles. A slender, open cup towers over the leaves - it is the spathe that shelters the spadix, a cob-shaped inflorescence that carries the real flowers. The magnificent dark red colour of the spathe perfectly complements the fiery orange of the inside.
The tubers of the 'Red Alert' arum lily can be planted in pots irrespective of the season. Plants grown at home usually bloom in winter and early spring. Those planted in the garden start to bloom in the middle of summer. If you plant to grow arum lilies on a flower bed wait with the planting until late spring. Plant the bulbs 8 to 10 centimetres deep in groups of three to five. Choose a partially shady site with humous, permeable soil with high water capacity. The compact growing calla lilies, as these plants are also called, can turn into a sophisticated flower bed decoration, particularly when you combine them with miniature varieties of the canna lily, another plant that is not a true lily. The elegant flowers and maculate leaves will also form great partnerships with hostas, Bergenias (elephant's ears) and alumroots. Excavate the bulbs in autumn and store in a room that is protected from frost.
Each package contains 1 large bulb sized 18/20 cm. Plant growing instructions were printed on the package.
