Carnation "Grenadin" (Dianthus caryophyllus) is a species producing attractive, multi-coloured blooms. It develops branched shoots covered with long, blue-green leaves. Large, double inflorescences develop one by one or in smaller groups atop the stems. The beautifully scented flowers come up in many different colour variants. This medium tall plant may reach 30 to 60 cm in height, what makes it a popular cut flower. You may compose a long-lasting and beautifully scented bouquets with them. These flower arrangements would adorn every interior. The multicoloured blooms will be a splendid decoration of garden borders and flower beds all summer long until autumn frosts. The "Grenadin" carnation may also be planted in pot arrangements.
This biennial plant is usually grown from seedlings sown at the end of spring to pots indoors or to a seed bed. Seedlings need to be pricked at least once. Transplant them to the permanent site at the end of summer in 25 x 30 cm spacings. Choose a sunny site for their culture. They will grow well and bloom abundantly in humous, preferably sandy-clay soils rich in lime and nutrients.
