Dwarf aster "Queen of the Night" (Callistephus chinensis) is a very attractive variety that grows 20 - 25 cm tall. This low growing plant with a bushy habit is decorated with numerous, quite large inflorescences in the summer. The peony-like blooms stand out with their form and deep blue colour. They develop from the beginning of summer until first autumn frosts. They will create a strong colourful highlights in the garden, whether planted on a border or as a colourful edging. Thanks to its small size the "Queen of the Night" variety is also recommended for cultivation in pots.

Asters show little resistance to low temperatures, hence its seeds should be sown early in spring in heated rooms, or directly to the ground in May the earliest. You may safely transplant the seedlings outside after the last spring frosts are gone. Dwarf asters grow best in soils rich in nutrients. They do not tolerate droughts, so the soil needs to be constantly moist, yet well drained.
