The leaf colouring may differ depending on the amount of light. This plant develops abundant tufts that grow up to 60 cm tall. These elegant and beautiful plants may be grown under trees and on shady borders in company of hostas, alumroots and other ferns.
Oriental ladyferns are planted to the ground starting in spring. They require a partially shady or completely shady site. Ferns need a fertile, constantly moist soil rich in humus to grow well. These plants would require watering during extensive drought periods. The "Pictum" variety may winter in the ground, as it is totally frost-resistant.
