Rose of Sharon or Syrian ketmia (Hibiscus syriacus) is a charming, beautiful flowering shrub that blooms in the summer. This perennial plant originates from Asia and is commonly known as rose mallow or St. Joseph's rod. Large purple-blue flowers that develop during high summer will adorn your garden until October. This shrub develops nice habit and grows 1.5 to 2.5 m tall. It thrives in containers placed on balconies and terraces. It may be planted in the garden, but requires winter covering. It will winter in the soil in the warmer regions of Europe. Rose of Sharon forms great hedges that will abundantly bloom on one-year old shoots cut in the spring. Unfortunately, it sheds leaves in autumn.

This ornamental plant is grown from seeds that may be sown all year long in a warm room. You may stratify the seeds before the sow, placing them in the fridge at 2 - 4°C for circa four weeks, but this measure is not necessary. Syrian ketmia will develop well and bloom abundantly planted on a warm, sunny and wind-sheltered site. You should provide it with a permeable, water-retaining soil that is rich in humus. Particularly younger plants need to be covered during winters.

Each package contains 0.5 g of the rose of Sharon seeds. Growing instructions and the sow-by date are included in the package information.
