The 'Sweet Violet' wood violet (Viola odorata) is a small, beautifully scented, charming biennial plant. Even though it grows only 10 cm above the ground, its charm is undeniable. The two-lipped, brightly purple flowers that sit atop the erect, tender stalks tower over the heart-shaped, grey-green, pubescent leaves. The flowers are relatively large in comparison with the plant size but they also attract the attention thanks to the saturated, less common colouring. The 'Sweet Violet' variety of the English violet blooms from March to May together with the early bulb plants. It is perfectly suited for cultivation on partially shady and sunny sites. It can be grown on the foreground of a flower bed, on the border or fill the empty places between the tall perennials, such as the crown imperial, with it. The common violet also constitutes a nice addition to a herb garden. The violet flowers were used in production of cough sirup in traditional medicine. The green parts of the plant display diaphoretic cholagogue and diuretic properties.
The seeds of the 'Sweet Violet' variety should be sown in autumn. The flowers can be adorned only in the second year of cultivation. The variety that we offer here is rather undemanding, resistant, and vigorous. It will grow well in every garden soil. You can also cultivate it in containers - bowls, boxes and tall planters - or grow for cut flowers that you can use for spring fragrant bouquets. The magnificent flowers of the proposed variety are edible and can be used as a unique colourful addition to salads and desserts.
One package contains 0.3 g of the 'Sweet Violet' wood violet seeds. The sow-by date and the growing instructions can be found on the back side of the package.
