The Jersey lily (Amaryllis belladonna), sometimes also called the belladonna-lily, naked-lady-lily or March lily, is a subtle bulbous flowering plant that originates from South Africa. It is often confused with the hippeastrum, even though it blooms more abundantly than the latter species and its flowers are subtler and sit atop the crimson erect stalks. The plants of the proposed variety grow 40 to 70 cm tall and develop dark green, fleshy, lanceolate leaves that are gathered in small tufts at the base of the stems. The blooming period of the Jersey lily turns into a terrific show of tender pastel colours - its circa 10 cm long funnel-shaped flowers create large clusters consisting of up to a dozen of them that delight with slender light pink petals.

The XXL-sized bulbs offered here can be planted in the garden and in planters. We recommend to plant the bulbs late in spring or early in summer in the first case. You may enjoy the Jersey lily in a pot all year long. These plants need a fertile, humous soil that retains humidity, but is at the same time aerated and not too heavy. They love the sun and warmth and therefore will develop best in a wind-sheltered bright garden corner, e.g. in a large single species grouping located under the southern facing wall.
