Bean "Erica" (Phaseolus coccineus), grown for tasty seeds, reaches crop maturity relatively early. This large-flowered bean variety develops dozens of flowers in one cluster. Dwarf plants usually grow 50 cm tall, but may take on vine form that develops long, crawling shoots that would not be able to climb upon supports. This variety is grown mostly for white seeds that are intended for drying. They gather in short pods, 4 - 5 apiece. They are kidney-shaped and smooth surface. They taste great and are a valuable source of plant protein in our daily diet.
Bean needs moderately moist, fertile soils that are rich in humus and nutrients in order to grow properly and yield harvest. It is important that the chosen soil warms up quickly in spring, because its seeds will germinate better. This plant is sensitive to spring frosts, hence bean seeds may only be sown to the field after May 15th. You should choose a well-lit, wind-sheltered site for its cultivation. The culture takes place in rows 40 - 50 cm apart. The harvest takes place when the pods and seeds have matured, usually from August until September.
Each package contains 50 g of "Erica" bean seeds. The package information contains a growing guide and the sow-by date.
