Field pea "Progress 9" (Pisum sativum) produces 5 - 8 cm pods, filled with large, exceptionally tasty, sweet seeds with wrinkled surface, that may be consumed raw or cooked. Pea seeds are a rich source of protein, fibre and minerals, including phosphorus, magnesium, iron and iodine. They also contain large amounts of vitamins C, E, K and B vitamins, carotene. Their high energetic value should not be overlooked, either. Seeds of the "Progress 9" variety are recommended for diabetics due to low starch content. Vitamins and minerals from pea strengthen the immune system and lower cholesterene level in blood.
Seed pea "Progress 9" is an early variety that matures early in summer. It is characterised by the short vegetation period. "Progress 9" variety is particularly recommended for amateur cultivation. It yields best crops in sandy-clay, permeable soils that are rich in humus. Seeds are sown directly to the soil that has been earlier loosened with gardening claws or a claw rake, in 30-35 x 5 cm spacings. Choose a sunny, wind-sheltered site where you will harvest pods with well developed seeds from June to July.
