Popcorn is a subspecies of the common corn (maize). "Jantar" is a hybrid variety producing abundant crops of excellent quality. You may expect 2 to 3 cobs on one plant. This corn variety is grown exclusively for dry seeds that are used after roasting. The vividly orange grains pop easily, allowing you to prepare delicious and crunchy snack. It contains vitamins, macro and micro-nutrients, of which selenium, zinc and manganese are the most important. Corn is also a rich source of dietary fibre. Popcorn prepared in a healthy way has a positive effect on the digestive and circulatory systems. It helps prevent diabetes and has an antioxidant effect. It also protects joints against degeneration and inflammation. It has a beneficial effect on the nervous system.
This plant requires a fertile, rich and thoroughly weeded soil at a site fully exposed to sunlight. It is sown from mid-April to mid-May. Sow directly to the ground by placing a few seeds in 4-6 cm deep holes. Prick out seedlings after the emergence, leaving only the strongest ones. Corn grows best in rows that form squares. This allows for the most effective wind propagation. The harvest takes place gradually. Well-formed cobs with ripe grains have to be dried for about 2 months after the harvest.
