The "Hordelin" dwarf aster (Callistephus chinensis) is a charming low growing variety that reaches up to 25 cm in height. The plant develops a nice bushy habit and consists of branched stems that all end with a pale pink flowers. Plants of the "Hordelin" variety produce large numbers of double blooms that consist of long tongue-shaped petals that densely fill the flower heads. They stand out with long and regular blooming that occurs from summer until autumn frosts. This low growing variety perfectly fits into low borders and flower beds. You will also create wonderful edgings and splendid pot and box arrangements with them.
Aster are frost-sensitive plants and therefore we recommend to grow seedlings in a heated interior in early spring. You may also sow aster seeds directly, however no earlier than in May, because spring frosts may damage seedlings. A sunny site would work best for "Hordelin" dwarf aster culture. A permeable soil rich in nutrients that does not crust will form a perfect environment for this aster.
