"Rosa Cardinal" globe candytuft (Iberis amara umbellata) is a strongly branching annual plant that consists of tender, densely leaved stems and grows only 25 - 30 cm tall. It develops small, four-petal, pink, nicely scented blooms gathered in large, round umbels atop the stems. It blooms from end of June to August. The plants look best planted in larger groupings that form abundantly blooming, colourful spots. They also look great planted as edgings in rock gardens.
Garden candytuft, as this plant is also called, is a rather undemanding plant. It grows well in every garden soil, but it develops the most beautiful blooms in largest numbers on sunny sites, in medium fertile, moderately moist soils. It is grown from direct sow to the permanent site. Seeds should be sown in April - May. Seedlings that grow too densely should be thinned, so 20-cm-distances between plants are kept. In order to speed up blooming of the globe candytuft, you may sow seeds to the soil in autumn, or prepare seedlings under covers early in spring.
