Hellebores – lenten rose (Helleborus orientalis) is a truly exceptional plant, whose blooms appear among the first in spring. The leathery, evergreen leaves form low tufts that grow up to 30 cm tall. The extremely large lowers develop atop slender stems and sometimes bend over. The white petals are decorated at the bases with tiny purple dots. These blossoms appear even before the start of spring, from February until April. The plants may bloom again in autumn. This magnificent perennial plant is recommended for shady sites and may be grown under trees and shrubs.
Lenten roses are planted to the ground already early in spring. Choose partially or fully shady places. These plants prefer humous, permeable, yet constantly moist soils, that are preferably clay and calciferous. Two of the most important advantages of this variety are the full frost resistance and very early blooming period.
