Hen of the woods, Maitake, is a very rare, hence protected mushroom species with numerous medicinal effects. It is used in mycotherapy in healing hypertension, diabetes, some kinds of cancer, lowering cholesterene level and curing fatty liver. It may be cultivated on broad-leaved tree wood. You will be able to harvest first mushrooms, if the temperature stays within 15 - 22 °C range and the site will be shady. The crops will regularly appear in the next eight years. Maitake produces interestingly looking mushrooms in form of hundreds of caps growing from a common stem. The whole colony may reach 20 - 60 cm in diameter.
