Mexican sour gherkin is a true hit for all lovers of unusual plants. This species produces small fruit that look like' watermelons! Thanks to their great taste, a combination of cucumber and lemon - they can be used in delicious salads or simply pickled. Cucamelon, as this original vegetable is also called, may also be used as ornamental plant. It is worth growing at an attractive set up, such as a pergola, gazebo or teillage.

Cultivation starts with April sow under covers. Young plants are transplanted to the garden after the spring frosts, usually in the second half of May. Mexican sour gherkin grows quite broadly, hence it should be planted in 70 x 25 cm spacings. It blooms from July to September and bears fruit from August to October, what means that in summer we will be able to enjoy both flowers and fruit. This plant needs a sunny site with a fertile, permeable soil to develop properly.
