Mugo Pine is a 0.7 to 1.5 metres in height shrub with the branches that arch upwards. The needles grow up to 6 centimetres long and appear densely on a spur. Moreover, the needles are fairly rigid and slightly curved; shiny and dark-green in colour. The Mugo Pine cones are sessile, 2 to 6 centimetres long, oval in shape and dark-brown in colour. The shrub is often used in the composing of green areas, on their own as well as in compositions in gardens, and is highly valued as a variety for bonsai cultivation.
Growing: sow the seeds in pots from March to April; the seeds need to be covered with a thin layer of soil. The seeds germinate irregularly over a period of several weeks. This variety grows well in any type of soil, as long as it is not overly moist and the plants are provided with a sunny position.
