Musk mallow (Malva moschata) is closely related to mallow, but it has significantly lesser requirements in terms of the cultivation. This magnificent, perennial plant may grow 60 - 70 cm tall and forms bushy tufts that consist of strong, erect stems densely covered with deeply dentate leaves. Satiny, delicate flowers that resemble hibiscus blooms may take on white or pink colour and exude nice, musk aroma. They will attract colourful butterflies to your garden. They develop atop the stems at the leaf bases all summer and autumn long. This species is perfectly fitted for elevated borders and English or rustic gardens. You may grow it on naturalistic borders, flowery meadows, alongside fences and building walls.
This plant is easy in cultivation and undemanding. It thrives in standard garden soil, although it prefers fertile, well drained soil. This plant will develop well on partially shady sites, but it will bloom abundantly in full sun. Musk mallow seeds should be sown in spring to containers, pots, trays or directly to the ground. The emergence takes a long time and does not occur at the same time. Transplant seedlings to the borders in 40 - 50 cm spacings.
