The trailing verbena is an annual plant with small flowers that take on intense colours. The up to 50 cm long stems frequently adorn boxes and hanging baskets. Pink and purple flowers blend in picturesquely with other colours, providing you with amazing visual effects. The trailing vervain is also used as a covering plant on beds. It forms medium-dense carpets that are easy to combine with other plants. It blooms long and profusely, from June to the end of September. Dense, head-shaped inflorescences with a pleasant scent attract numerous butterflies and bees. Verbena does not cause any problems in cultivation and is suitable for people who are just starting their gardening adventure.
Verbena prefers sunny or slightly shaded sheltered positions with humous and well-drained soil. It grows quite well in less favourable conditions. It requires watering during drought and reacts positively to fertilization - preferably with a preparation dedicated for flowering plants. Remove the faded flowers and the tips of the shoots in order to give the plants a nicer habit and better health. It is a pest and disease resistant plant. It copes well with hot weather when regularly watered.
The cultivation of verbena begins in early spring with sowing the seeds on a heated hotbed, in a greenhouse or at a windowsill at home. After the emergence the seedlings need to be pricked and thinned. Plant seedlings in the second half of May.
One package contains 1 gram of seeds. The sow-by date and the growing instructions can be found on the back side of the package.
