The Purpureum autumn crocus belongs to the few bulb flower species that flower in autumn. Its pastel-coloured flowers look odd at the end of the season, what makes them an even more precious addition to an autumn garden. Flowers that shoot in small clusters from one bulb are often confused with the regular crocuses. However, they are much bigger. Their star-shaped petals are fused at the base into a long tube. Leafless plants allow you to fully admire the wonderful blooms. The Purpureum autumn crocus takes on a beautiful pale purple colour. Plant it on already empty spots on flower beds, on borders, and next to ornamental shrubs. They look adorably on lawns and rock gardens too. Do not hesitate and fill pots, planters, and boxes with them. Place those glowing containers in the garden, on a terrace, or balcony. Those dazzling autumn flowers look spectacular in a vase.

Plant autumn crocuses at the end of summer to allow them to bloom on time. Plant corms twelve to fifteen centimetres deep and water the site abundantly. Choose a sunny place and soil that is rich in nutrients and has an alkaline reaction. Autumn crocuses belong to hardy plants. You can leave them at the same site for several years. Those plants propagate by bulbils that develop from main corms. Dig them out and divide in June, right after the leaves have dried.
