Red Larkspur, also known as Orange Larkspur, is a perennial that is in flower in the first year of cultivation; it grows around 40 centimetres in height. The shoots are rigid, yet branch out ever so slightly. The period from July to September, which is when the plant is in flower, is the time when the beautiful orangish-red flowers develop, collectively making loose inflorescences. Red Larkspur is a top choice for flower beds or rock gardens. Thanks to its high decorative value, this variety is also used as a cut flower.
Growing: plant out in the spring or in early autumn. The plants may freeze in harsh winters, therefore in temperate climates, it is mostly grown in the soil as an annual. This variety grows best in well-drained fertile permeable soils in sunny positions.
