Rock soapwort (Saponaria ocymoides) is a low, yet very broadly growing perennial plant, that grows best at sunny and dry locations. The year after the sowing it grows rapidly and sprinkles with a plethora of flat, five-petal flowers in white, different shades of pink and violet. Beautiful, rich flower pillows that reach 20-30 cm in height retain their ornamental value from May to end of July.
Rock soapwort should be sown under cover, in a hotbed or indoors under glass from March until end of April. Similarly good results can be achieved with seeding in a nursery at the end of April and in May. Seedlings that have developed several pairs of leaves should be transferred to a permanent site in August or at the beginning of September. A very prolific plant, rock soapwort fits particularly well into rock gardens, sunny walls and embankments. It also puts on a great show in large carpet flower beds and in larger containers, from which it bends over with cascades of colourful, little flowers.
One packet contains 1 g of rock soapwort seeds. Sow-by date and growing guide are printed at the back side of the package.
