This popular plant is most commonly used as addition to bouquets. Only a few years ago no florist could imagine a bouquet without baby's breath.

A beautiful perennial plant, the common gypsophila as it is also called, belongs to Caryophyllaceae family. You can invite it to your garden today by buying its seeds in our store. Baby's breath forms tall, branched, bushy habit. 100 to 120 cm tall clouds of white, tiny blooms will become a great attraction in your garden. Both single and double flowers appear on the stiff stems. Slightly pinkish colouring is nothing unusual. Rather fragrance-less blooms gathered in large panicles attract pollinating insects. Leaves do not present ornamental value. The plant forms a loose, round tuft, bringing fog clouds or sea foam to mind. Such a pictoresque look will definitely satisfy all aesthetes.

Panicled baby's breath grows perfectly on sunny sites. To get the most of its cultivation, you need to provide it with permeable, light, sandy soil with neutral or even better alkaline reaction and high calcium content. The latin name Gypsophila means "gypsum lover" and is justified in the preference for gypsum-rich soils. Baby's breath seeds are sown to an unheated hotbed early in spring, or directly end of May / beginning of June. Flowers develop on the plants already in June and remain there until end of July. After that topping of the shoots is recommended. It happens sometimes, although not always, that the tufts blossom again. You should top the plants decisively before winter. Taller stems might need support.

Common gypsophila is a very attractive, perennial plant, that can be used as filling for elevated borders. White cloud contrasts wonderfully with the green of a lawn or hedge. Florists remain the main users of baby's breath. Romantic, white fog adds lightness and does not lose any of its popularity. A beautiful, colourful bouquet, refreshed with the white of small pom-poms will always make smile the person who receives it. In the recent years it celebrates its comeback to the florist showrooms and' weddings. Brides choose to wear bouquets composed of those flowers and to decorate the whole reception with them. It cannot be missed from the dried flower arrangements, either.

Baby's breath is a plant you should not miss in your garden. We encourage you to buy a packet containing 1 g of seeds and growing instructions.

The quality control process

All our seeds must pass a four-stage quality control process.

Stage one begins with a careful selection of the suppliers. Than we proceed with controlling their crops, foreign producers are not excluded from the quality control process. Plants are checked at every stage of their development: when they start to grow, during blooming and when they start bearing fruit (seeds). At this stage the most important thing is to ensure proper spacing of the plants. Thanks to that obtaining the desired morphological characteristics of each particular species or variety, such as colour, height and shape, can be ensured.

Stage two consists of a detailed verification tests in laboratory conditions. With the use of the highest quality equipment by the highly qualified staff, our suppliers perform more than 30 000 quality checks annually. The seeds that do not meet our requirements are subject to technological refining processes, including drying, cleaning, upgrading and testing again.

Stage three starts with sowing seeds in selected control plots. That way we obtain valuable, exact information concerning their germination that must be maintained at an appropriate level. Simultaneously, the varietal identity of each species is checked at this stage.

Stage four takes place in our warehouses and consists of eliminating seeds that have been stored for too long on our shelves and replacing them with new batches. Each package is stamped with a unique batch number and also with the sow-by-date.

All four stages combined allow us to state with confidence that the seeds we deliver comply with the highest standards and have completed all required control stages with flying colours.
