"Premium" pea (Pisum sativum) belongs to the earliest pea varieties. Its delicious pods may be harvested already sixty days after the sow. These tall plants need supports in cultivation. They develop numerous large, broad pods that may grow up to 9 cm. They lack the inner membrane hence can be eaten whole. You should harvest them while they are still green and firm and the seeds are tiny and undeveloped. They taste best at this stage of maturity. Exceptionally delicious and nutritional sugar pea can be eaten raw or cooked.
Sugar pea is grown from direct sow to the field. "Premium" pea seeds should be sown from March to May, because young plants handle low frost well. Pea seeds are sown in rows 30 - 40 cm apart in 5 cm spacings. Pods of this variety reach crop maturity very fast. You can harvest them from May to July. Permeable soils rich in humus that warm up rapidly in spring are perfect for sugar pea cultures.
Each package contains 40 g of the "Premium" sugar pea seeds. Growing instructions and the sow-by date are included in the package information.
