"Big League" tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) is a determinate variety that is recommended for cultivation in the field and under covers. Dwarf plants develop bushy habit and grow circa 100 cm long. These plants with their strong erect shoots do not need staking nor topping. Due to their relatively small size you may grow them on a balcony or terrace. They develop large fruit, whose weight reaches 320 - 350 g. The flattened fruit with visible ribbing take on nice, red colouring. "Big League" tomatoes are delicious, fleshy what makes them perfect for raw consumption in salads, sandwiches and as side dish.
Seeds of the "Big League" tomato should be sown in February or March to a hotbed or greenhouse. Seedlings should be placed on a permanent site in the second half of May, after the risk of spring frosts is gone. Prior to that you need to harden young plants. Dwarf tomatoes should be cultivated in 50 x 50 cm spacings. Fruit mature from beginning of July to end of August. Choose sunny and wind-sheltered site for tomato cultures. The soil should be rich in nutrients and moderately moist.
