Crimson petunia with bicoloured blooms "Starlet F2" (Petunia x hybrida pendula) is a very popular flowering plant. You usually see it growing in hanging baskets or cascading from balconies and windows. It looks great in pots and balcony boxes, as well as in the garden, on borders and flower beds. This annual plant produces hanging stems that grow up to 40 cm long. Magnificent, large flowers are bicoloured. They take on dark crimson colour with a white star in the middle. They present a great alternative to single-colour flowers.
You may propagate petunias through early spring sow. This species grows rather small and the seedlings will be ready for transplantation to the permanent site after 10 - 12 weeks. Petunia seeds available in our garden store should be sown to boxes or trays. Light permeable soil or special seeding soil would be ideal for that purpose. High temperature and access to sunlight is needed for the plants to germinate. Plant seedlings in 20 - 25 cm spacings in the second half of May. This is a great plant for sunny sites, as it withstands short drought periods. It prefers soils that are rich in nutrients and highly permeable.
