Boy Orange French marigold (Tagetes patula nana) is a variety that develops a nice, compact habit and vividly orange inflorescences. Broadly spreading tufts grow 20 to 40 cm tall. Pom-pom-shaped blooms appear in large numbers atop the stems and adorn the plants all summer long until the first stronger frosts. This plant looks marvellous planted in rows alongside lawn or path edges. It would also fit on border edgings, pots and balcony boxes.
These plants are very easy in cultivation and can be easily grown from seeds. French marigold seeds germinate very quickly and they can be sown early in spring under covers or in garden in May. The seedlings need to be transferred to the permanent site in the second half of May after the last spring frosts have passed, keeping 20 x 30 cm spacings between the plants. French marigold grows best in sunny or partially shady sites. It does not require any special kind of soil as long as it is well-drained, because this plant does not stand waterlogged ground.
