Reishi, also known under its scientific name Ganoderma lucidum, is a mushroom that has been used as medicine for centuries. It helps to support treatment of various cancer types, the ailments of the cardio-vascular system. It lowers blood pressure, decreases cholesterol level in blood, strengthens the body and slows down ageing processes. It also helps to cure bronchia, bronchial asthma, some allergies and many other diseases. It is listed as "endangered" on the Red List of Threatened Species in the majority of countries, as a very rare in its natural form. The cap of this fungus takes on a kidney shape and a yellow colour at the beginning. It becomes darker with time and finally gets scarlet-brown or even blackish-red. The irregularly shaped stem is often covered with nodules, often grows sideways or is only residual. The whole fruit body shines, as it has been covered with glossy varnish. Reishi is not an edible mushroom.
