This mushroom with jelly-like texture is highly regarded in the Chinese cuisine. It owes its name to its shape that is cup-like at the beginning and than turns bowl-shaped and open, resembling an ear. It takes on red-brown colour, matt in the upper part. It is used in many Asian dishes, but hasn't found a way into European cuisine. This mushroom tastes great fried or stewed with meat, fish and vegetables.
Cultivation should take place on broad-leaved tree wood on a shady place (indoors, too). The optimal spore growing temperature lays between 15 - 25°C. First harvest takes place after 6 - 12 months and the next every year for even eight following years.
