The Jerusalem Cherry, also known as the Madeira Winter Cherry, is an evergreen shrub that grows 25 to 40 centimetres in height; it is mainly cultivated as an annual plant. The leaves are lance-shaped with a lovely dark-green hue. Once the summer arrives, the Jerusalem Cherry produces small star-shaped flowers. Its little fruits, which turn red in the autumn, are the main decorative portion of this charming plant.
Growing: sow the seeds under cover from March to April. Plant out in May. The plants flower from June to October and love sunny positions.
