The low growing red "Floristan" sunflower (Helianthus annuus) belongs to one of the most unusual sunflower varieties and delights with blooms that take on unusual red colour. This dwarf variety grows usually ca. 120 cm tall. A strongly growing annual plant develops robust, stiff stems topped with large inflorescences. It blooms all summer long attracting butterflies, bees and other useful insects to the garden. Sunflowers are ideal for border backgrounds as they look great providing setting for other flower, and work well as summer hedge, too. Flowers can be cut and composed into sunny bouquets and other arrangements.

Late spring is the right time for sowing sunflower seeds. Sow directly, one seed per hole to the soil, on the site where the plants would later grow. Blooms appear after circa 10 - 12 weeks. If you intend to prolong the blooming period, we advise to sow seeds in batches every fortnight. Sunflower is resistant to high temperatures and drought, therefore it feels best in the full sun. It grows well in every kind of soil, but prefers clay and humous, well drained ground.
