The pennyroyal, pennyrile or squaw mint (Mentha pulegium) is perennial medicinal plant that usually grows 30-40 cm tall. It is higly valued fo its aromatic, menthol-flavoured, dark green, rather small leaves. The aroma comes from the high content of essential oil. Pennyroyal is used for seasoning of different dishes, among others desserts and the famous mint sauce. Leaves should be harvested before the pink inflorescences have developed.
Seeds need to be stored in fridge for about a week before the direct sow, that usually occurs in spring, in May. After approximately 2 weeks young plants need to be thinned so they grow in 40x40 cm spacings. Pennyroyal blooms in late summer, hence the harvest should take place between May and August. An interesting fact - this is the only member of the family that reproduces parent characteristics in cultivation from seeds.
The package contains 0.1 g of high-quality pennyroyal seeds. A growing and care guide with the sow-by date have been printed on the back side of the package.
Approximately 1500 seeds (+/- 20%)
