The "Piko" cucumber is an excellent early, parthenocarpic variety. It develops predominantly female female plants that develop many fruit. It belongs to indeterminate varieties recommended for cultivation in the field and under covers. The fruit take on a bluntly ending cylindrical shape and reach 7-8 cm in length. They are covered with appetizing, shiny, wart-less, dark green skin without any, or with only barely visible, short smudges. These cucumbers are round in cross section, with a very small core. There flesh is tender and firm, without any hint of bitterness.
"Piko" is a hybrid variety intended for direct consumption. It is perfectly suited for salads and snacks. Salad cucumbers are a great addition to summer dishes. Fragrant cucumber salad with cream, yoghurt and dill or with a vinaigrette sauce are only some of the ideas for using these fruits. "Piko" cucumbers are a tasty and quick addition to sandwiches. Chilled cucumbers cut into sticks will help quench your thirst on a hot day. Cucumbers are easily digestible, hence recommended to people on a diet, particularly when you consider that they are low-calorie. They deacidify the body and help fight diseases of the urinary tract. Cucumber extracts are widely used in cosmetics.
Cucumber can be grown from seedlings or by sowing directly into the ground. Sowing for seedlings takes place in the second half of April. Seedlings are transferred to the ground after the threat of spring frosts has subsided. About at the same time you may sow directly to the field. Sow in rows, circa 2 cm deep, keeping 8-15 cm spacings between plants. Seeds germinate after 8-10 days.
One package contains 3 g of "Piko" hybrid salad cucumber seeds. There are growing instructions and the sow-by date printed at the back of the package.
