The "Red Toga" wintering onion (Allium fistulosum)is a very easy to grow, undemanding, perennial variety. Unlike the common onion, a wintering does not produce large, spherical bulbs, but has a very long, thick, juicy and dense chives. The narrow, small onion bulbs of the variety offered in our store have an intense red, attractive colour, its leaves, in turn, are dark green.

Seeds of "Red Toga" wintering onion can be sown on a seedbed and directly in the ground in spring and summer, depending on the desired harvest time. Plants obtained from spring sowing ensure an abundant crop of thick chives throughout the summer, while in case of the summer sow you have to wait for the harvest until spring next year. The presented variety is a winter hardy, resistant perennial that self-propagates. You can also propagate it by division in spring and autumn. The wintering onion thrives both on fertile soils and those lesser, with smaller humus content. Both the bulb and chives provide large amounts of B vitamins, vitamin C, zinc, phosphorus, sulphur, selenium, magnesium and are a source of essential oils with antibiotic properties.
