Candelabra Primrose is a glamorous perennial variety, which grows 40 to 60 centimetres in height. The plants produce outstanding rosettes that grow very close to the ground and die out in the winter. The flowering period spans over around three months, from April to June; this is when the buds on tops of the shoots burst open to reveal numerous multi-coloured flowers that grow 2 centimetres broad. Candelabra Primrose is a top choice for moist and shaded spots, in particular at streams, ponds or trees.

Growing: sow the seeds in planter boxes or pallet planters from April to May. Do not cover the seeds with soil; lightly press them into the soil using a small board. For even germination, place the boxes at 10oC for around a week, then move to a position kept at 18-20oC for 2 to 3 weeks. Plant out into a permanent position in 25-30cm spacings in late summer. The plants thrive in fairly thick moist permeable soils in shaded positions.
