"Contender" bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) is a dwarf, early, very productive variety that produces green, cylindrical long, stringless and exceptionally tasty pods. High resistance to diseases and extended harvest time also belong to its advantages. French bean pods contain large amounts of vitamin C and carotene, as well as calcium, kalium, manganese, phosphorus and fibre. They show diuretic effect, help fight different kinds of infections and support functioning of the nervous system. Bean seeds contain large amounts of protein, carbohydrates and B vitamins. French beans belongs to vegetables with low glycaemic index that may be safely eaten by people suffering from diabetes. "Contender" French bean is ideal for direct consumption cooked or fried. It may also be successfully frozen and processed.

Seeds of the "Contender" bean are sown directly to the soil from May to mid-July in 50 x 5 cm spacings. The pods become harvest ready from July to September. You should choose sunny and wind-sheltered sites for bean culture. This plant yields best crops in medium compact, humous, quickly warming up, fertile and moderately moist soils.
