" " glandular Cape marigold (Dimorphoteca aurantiaca) is an extremely ornamental annual plant that grows 30 - 35 cm tall. Its ribbed, pubescent and branched shoots tend to bend over and crawl. Elongated, dentate, fleshy and hairy leaves grow on shoots, atop which large flower heads develop on thin, stiff petioles from June to autumn. These flower heads consist of bright orange, shiny ray flowers and darker, tubular disc flowers that create the "eye". Flower heads close evenings and on cloudy and rainy days, hence this plant looks the most stunning during sunny and hot summers. Namaqualand daisy, as this plant is also called, may be grown on borders, edgings and in rock gardens, but will also thrive in containers. You may also use it as cut flower.
Seeds of the " " glandular Cape marigold are sown in April - May directly to the ground in 15 x 20 cm spacings. These plants require a sunny site with humous, light, permeable and fertile soil.
