Maiden pink (Dianthus deltoides) with its carmine-red, tiny blooms is a perfect fit in rock gardens. This low growing, 10 - 15 cm tall perennial plant spreads broadly, developing long, crawling shoots decorated with narrow, green leaves. This species would be ideal for planting on border, path and wall edgings, as well as in containers. Those green carpets are decorated with myriads of tiny flowers. The distinctive carmine-red colour of blooms makes this species one of the most attractive plants for dry and sunny borders.
Growing maiden pink from seeds sown late in spring is quite easy. Sow the seeds to boxes and seeding trays or onto a seed bed. Transplant the seedlings to the permanent site at the end of summer, keeping 10 - 15 cm spacings between the plants. Maiden pink does not have any special requirements in regard to its cultivation. You may plant it even on lesser, stony soils. It prefers permeable, medium-rich, slightly calcareous soils on dry and sunny sites.
Each package contains 0.3 g of carmine-red maiden pink seeds. The package information contains a growing guide and the sow-by date.
