It grows best in a fertile, rich, permeable soil, whose humidity is essential for the successful cultivation. The meadow foxtail tolerates waterlogging and periodical floods, too. Therefore it can be grown on sites with the ever swinging conditions that are out of reach for other plants. This grass species is recommended for hay meadows, but is not advised for pastures due to its high sensitivity to treading. It brings rich yield of high nutritional value.
