Onion "Augusta" (Allium cepa) is a winter variety that is resistant to low temperatures. It is intended for winter cultivation, as it successfully survives winters in the field. It develops round, slightly flattened bulbs weighing 110 - 120 g. Their flesh is creamy-white and rather savoury in taste. The outer scales take on attractive yellow-golden colour. This variety yields high-quality crops and is fitted for direct consumption. It shows high resistance to downy mildew.
Seeds of the winter onion are sown directly to the ground in late summer in 8 - 40 cm spacings. The vegetation period of this variety is rather short and takes 300 days. Bulbs of this medium late variety are harvested in spring the following year. They are ideal for early bundle harvest, when you pick up small bulbs with the green chives. Those harvested later are also intended for direct consumption. These onions may not be stored long-term. They will retain their value for maximum 2 months.
