The Pink martagon lily (Lilium martagon) belongs to the completely frost resistant varieties that are easy to grow and bloom abundantly. The unique, hanging flowers of this plant that hang on long petioles and form large clusters, constitute the most important asset of the variety. A single flower is funnel-shaped and consists of lanceolate petals that are bent upwards. Large ornamental anthers that stick out from the calyx only add to the exotic flair of the plant. One flowering stalk carries an abundance of charming flowers, up to twenty! The variety offered here in our store produces flowers that take on a vivid sweet pink colour. It flowers in July and August. Slender, unbranched stem of this erect plant can grow 90 to 100 centimetres tall. Martagon or Turk's cap lilies stand out with unique leaf arrangement. Their lanceolate, shiny leaves with rounded tips form regular whorls.
Bulbs of the martagon lily can be planted both in the ground and in large, tall planters - pots, buckets, and baskets. In pot cultures, use standard garden soil, preferably mixed with vermiculite, on a drainage layer of expanded clay aggregate or pebbles. Choose permeable, not too compact, humous, and moist soil for cultivation on borders and flower beds. Light structure of the soil ensures healthy wintering of the bulbs and abundant blooming of plants every year. Pink martagon lily looks particularly well in informal flower bed compositions with other martagon lilies, e.g. the Orange variety. Small groups of martagon lilies can be mixed with phlox, dahlia, lupin, hollyhock, canna, and gladioli tufts.
