Purple scarlet sage (Salvia splendens) is a new variety of a well-known and popular variety that often grows in gardens and on balconies. In contradiction to the most popular cultivar with bright red blooms, this variety produces deep purple inflorescences. Spike-shaped blooms surrounded by rosettes of flat, oval leaves form a perfect decoration on edgings or at the front of flower beds. Purple scarlet sage retains its high ornamental value for a long time, from June until September.
This plant should be grown from seedlings that can be produced within two or three weeks. You only need to sow the seed on seeding trays or boxes in a greenhouse or indoors. Seedlings need to be thinned into separate containers and then transplanted into open air after the last frosts. This variety grows best and abundantly produces flowers on sunny sites in fertile, light, compost-enriched soils. When you choose to grow this aster in pots, you should never forget drains. This presented variety, reaching up to 30 cm in height, and producing plum-purple, erect inflorescences can be combined with other Salvia splendens cultivars, e.g. white or pink-orange.
