"Samurai" field tomato (Lycorpersicon esculentum) is one of the latest varieties intended for field cultivation without covers. It belongs to the unproblematic tomato cultivars, as it does not require staking nor topping. The plants sprout stiff stems that form bushy, erect habit. "Samurai" yields rich crops very early and its fruit can be harvested already in August and September. The berries are regularly shaped, round and red. Because of their excellent taste they are recommended for direct consumption and all kinds of preserves, particularly juices and purees. They are a treasury of vitamin C, provitamin A, B-complex vitamins and also suplly plenty of kalium and only little les phosphorus, calcium and magnesium.

In our climate field tomatoes are grown from seedlings raised at home or in a greenhouse early in spring. Young plants are transplanted into open field after the last frosts in 50-60 x 50 cm spacings. Tomato cultivation site needs to be sunny with fertile, moderately compact, not overdrying soil, preferably enriched with compost.
