Pink tropical sage (Salvia splendens) belongs to the most attractive balcony and border plants that are easy in cultivation and bloom for a long time. Tiny tufts of oval leaves, from which thick, erect spikes of narrow blooms emerge, look like cheerful flames from a distance. Bright, vivid pink colouring of the inflorescences of the variety offered here make it stand out from more popular relatives. Thanks to them this delicate (30 cm tall) plant will become a great decoration for your favourite balcony box, flower bed or path edging.
Sowing into any given kind of container takes plave in early spring. Seedlings need to be pricked out into separate pots as soon as they have developed first pairs of leaves. They should be transplanted into open air after the last frosts. Tropical sage cultivated in pots will feel great in standard soil with a drainage layer of expanded clay aggregate or coarse gravel. Plants in field cultivation thrive in all kinds of garden soil, apart from the waterlogging and sandy ones. Pink tropical sage will bloom already in June in full sun and will reliably adorn its site until the end of summer. We recommend to place it near species developing tuft habit, such as differently coloured baby's breath's varieties, sweet alyssum or plants with flower heads, such as dwarf asters, zinnias or gazanias.
