Cauliflower "Verde di Macerata" with green heads (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis) is a very attractive variety. This medium late variety is particularly recommended for open field cultivation for autumn harvest. Cauliflower is a great vegetable for freezing, as it does not lose any of its properties. "Verde di Macerata" cauliflower develops heads that stand out from other cauliflower varieties with the intriguing, pale green colour. The compact, large heads may even reach weight of 1.3 kg. This vegetable is intended for direct consumption, even raw, but is mostly served cooked. It is used in salads and warm plates.
Cauliflowers are grown mostly from earlier prepared seedlings. Sow the cauliflower seeds from April to May to seeding trays or pots placed in a warm and bright interior. Transplant the seedlings to the permanent site from May to June, planting them in 40 - 50 cm spacings. Cauliflower prefers sunny sites and fertile soils rich in nutrients and water. We recommend to fertilise the culture with manure or compost. Please note that nitrogen shortage in the soil will result in developing smaller heads.
