Nameko belongs to the most popular and commonly cultivated mushrooms in Japan, China and Korea. The honey-brown cap may be flat or slightly convex and grows from a relatively long stem that reaches up to 8 cm in length. Nameko's cap surface is slightly sticky and shiny, bringing the common slippery jack to mind. It is widely used in medicine due to its nutritional value and the vitamins and minerals it contains.
You may start nameko culture on wood of almost every broad-leaved tree. The first mushrooms are harvested in the second year of cultivation and than once a year for 3 - 5 years, or even longer, what depends on the wood decomposing time. The site should be shady and the temperature between 13 and 20°C.
