Pattypan squash "Orfeus" (Cucurbita pepo var. Patisoniana) belongs to the earliest varieties of the common squash with a specific shape and taste. Its fruit take on a disc-like shape with a distinctly corrugated edge. White, thin peel shelters creamy, delicious flesh. Medium large, appetizing pattypans that are rich in minerals and vitamin C should be served cooked, stuffed or roasted or preserved.
Seeds of the presented variety can be sown in spring at home to pots and glass-covered containers or onto the field in late spring and early summer. You should provide a sunny site with a fertile, rather light soil that does not show a tendency to drying. Large crops can be expected from any kind of garden soil that would be enriched with a substantial amount of compost in the spring. Beautifully developed pattypans with delicious flesh can be harvested from mid-July until the first frosts in October, depending on the start of cultivation.
